Women everywhere remember the stunning, sexy and powerhouse diva Raquel Welch. Her new book “Beyond The Cleavage” is a fascinating self empowerment tool for women 50 plus, and or anyone who wants to learn how to embrace life with vigor and zest. When I speak about lingerie, I thought I had a selection of great metaphors. After watching Raquel on Bonny Hunts show, I was mesmerized with envy. She made mention of how her “rack” would not fit into the “modern bra”. She stated how she had a full crowd and they (her girls) can not be pushed into a small balcony! I was rolling. Right on Raquel! This is what I call confidence and owning who you are with no embarrassment. She shared additional lessons on life and defining what age means and looks like for her right now. I enjoyed listening to her describe her journey with her body and her life. One of things she said that I loved is that “you can change things”. I believe this is the key to looking good daily as it pertains to lingerie. Embrace who you are, flaws and all…Give yourself some love! Thanks for sharing Raquel.

Don’t get caught in the wrong stuff… – Underwear We Love
If you have already started shopping for your summer wardrobe, it’s so important to add new underwear to your list. Last summer I got caught in an embarrassing situation as I left home in my white sundress looking awesome (so I thought). I stopped by the cleaners to pick up items and as I was approaching I caught a glimpse of my blaring nude underwear showing through my white dress. Mortified… The Lingerie Fit Expert was a potential magazine article of “Don’t Do This”! So what was the problem? The nude was not my shade. I scrambled home and went searching through my drawer. I tried nude, I tried black, it was still a train wreck. Finally, the answer came when I pulled out a pair of chocolate brown thongs. It matched my skin tone, and disappeared under my clothes.
Do you have your own not so special moment? I am sure we could swap story after story. When you’re shopping for underwear, remember to think past just nude, black or white. Think about shades and tones you may have not considered before to prepare for wardrobe malfunctions. Everything does not have to be totally seamless. A touch of lace at the right locations on underwear is totally fine. You want to own at least 10 or more pairs of underwear and now companies are giving incentives such as $1 off each pair for buying three or more. No more excuses and emergencies. Your covered girlfriend!
Cover it Up…The Long Tee for Spring
Lingerie is now the destination for what I call intimate daywear apparel. It’s a mix of layering pieces that go from lunch with friends to the spa to out to dinner with your man. If you’re a woman like me who has a busy life, always packing a suitcase and leaving out of town, then I suggest visiting a few options for your wardrobe.
Day Option: Take it down a notch during the day and create a business solution with a black trouser and heels, classic gold or silver jewelry to compliment. The white shirt becomes a long jacket with a hip modern twist.
Evening Option: A long white shirt is romantic, sexy and really creates unlimited possibilities. You can take a jeweled belt (hot trend), wrap around and add a camisole, a skirt with ruffles, big chunky jewels and you are a smoking hot diva at an evening event.
Play Option: You’re traveling to a chic destination hotel and you want to take it up a notch with not your ordinary pool cover. Hello! Your white shirt is your friend and you look smashing. It provides a solution for extra pounds you want to conceal as well.
One item, multiple solutions! This one is a must have on the list for spring and summer.
Trends – Vintage Inspired
In Style Magazine recently reviewed new bras for women. It was well done, and wow what a collection. It is so awesome to see that women of every size and shape can truly have their own style.
As I reviewed lingerie trends for spring, my favorite pick is vintage inspired lingerie.
Vintage is timeless, and if you’re a woman who likes to collect lingerie, it’s a must have. It appears that dresses and being ultra feminine is the key this season. A vintage bra and panty set would be the ultimate accessory to your wardrobe. Regardless if you can not see it, you know how fabulous you feel and look.
It does not cost a fortune to do the vintage look. Prices range from $24 to $60 for a bra and $10 to $30 for the bottom half. Create a new expression of you with a return to classic intimate apparel that celebrates the old, but brings out a bold new woman in you!
Shape – Fit- Solution April – The White Cotton Camisole
The first glimpse of this delicate camisole and you fall madly head over heels. The cotton industry has a commercial called the touch, the feel of cotton, the fabric of our lives. This is true statement plus some! I used to make a joke with my clients, hey meet my man Hanro. They would laugh but then they came back and said that Hanro left me for them. They were hooked. We selected the Biarritz Tank this month because of its exquisite lace detail that looks like ruffles ( a hot trend) and the simplicity of the white. It can be worn with navy, black, denim, pink…you get the idea.
They key to this fabulous frolic is a contour bra that fits. A push up bra or something with lace will take away from the feminine details. A sleeveless oxford shirt open with the camisole peeking out would be sensational. I could even see taking the big belt and wrapping it around the waist with a pair of shorts. This spring, make the white camisole your friend.
Lingerie Chic – Daywear/Playwear
In the mid 90’s designer and icon Josie Natori began a line of lingerie camisole tops that you could wear out. At first, my clients did not understand the concept. They would always ask, is this to be seen? I would always be so excited to show them how to incorporate the tee into their wardrobe. I personally rocked an orange v-neck camisole of hers for years!Spring is a time to be creative in your shopping.
If you have a limited budget, you can make an item like a tank top go a long way. It can become a layering piece or a daywear top for the right jeans or skirt. I personally use more lingerie solutions than I do ready wear now because I get so much more for my money.Advice: On a budget? Reinvent your entire wardrobe by purchasing three or four key camisoles. Select different styles including no sleeve, long sleeve, prints and solids. You will be amazed how your wardrobe will look brand new!
Slim, Trim and Tone the Torso – Body Confidence
So many times when we get dressed in the morning it feels like a struggle to wear anything body conscious when we have “issues”. This is no longer the case when so many amazing companies are designing shapewear that is sexy and a solution. My favorite part of being a Lingerie Fit Expert is providing women with confidence. It’s that go and do it diva attitude that we need to get dressed in the morning daily.
Spring for so many women is a dance of fear. You go shopping and you see a dress or top and your heart begins to beat fast. “Can I wear that? What about my bacon and bulges? Now you can stop those voices with shapewear that focus on the torso. Some provide a bra and others enhance the bra you wear from contour to strapless. Ironically, as I was writing this blog I received a call from one of my clients who purchased a torso camisole. She was raving about how much back support it provided. She felt like it made her stand tall and more upright and her clothes fit like never before! This is a woman’s dream. No fussing, pulling and tugging.
Select a style that enhances your wardrobe and your “fit” challenges.
Navy – The New Black
As spring unfolds, I have noticed something new in the color story category. Navy Blue is the new “it” color of the season. It started with the Oscars when the stars stepped out of the box from their usual suspects Black or White.
Although it was done and very well by some, Navy Blue and its sister tones took the center stage and shined big time! I have noticed it is being incorporated with lilac as well as yellow. It’s super fashionista and it takes a woman’s wardrobe to another level. I have been recommending navy blue bras instead of black to my clients.
The swimwear this season has also been hit with the blue bug. My mother is a lover of Navy Blue and it reminds me of the 60’s. Women were very stylish and navy was considered dramatic and “next level”.
Trend Watch: Navy and White with Black or a pop of color is hot this season.
Spring Trends Lingerie – Flower Power
Spring has arrived! I am so excited with the clothing and intimate apparel collections this season. It’s all about women tapping into the soft, feminine energy. The biggest trend so far is floral. Flowers are EVERYWHERE. The new statement has been incorporated into handbags, shoes, and accessories. The trend is no stranger to intimate apparel. You can find it in bras this season in which the pattern and or lace does not interfere with your clothes.
I would select a color story that is going to work with your wardrobe such as black, nude or pink. Pink is another alternative to skin tone.
Incorporating the floral statement into a camisole is another way to strut your stuff. It provides a subtle detail that takes your wardrobe from basic to beautiful. The best part is that you can transition the look with summer collections as well. Go ahead, try something new…
