Jane Russell, Hollywood Icon and former Playtex Spokes Model recently died on February 28th. Jane would ironically visit the lingerie department I worked for in Santa Barbara, California as I was building my expertise and passion for lingerie. She was always gracious and a lovely woman. Jane was the original “Bra Fit Expert” to so many women around the world before it became main stream to discuss our underwear solutions. My mom is still wearing the brand and refuses to change. She embraced Jane’s philosophy, “you must always have lift and separation”. Little did I know that when I saw those commercials in the 70’s, I would embark upon a 19 plus year career in the industry. To Jane I say a tremendous thank you for helping women to feel confident and beautiful on the inside. It will continue to inspire me in my journey of reaching and teaching women on the importance of lingerie fit. Blessings Jane!

I can button my shirt! The importance of Fit
So many times I have heard my friends and clients mentioning how their shirt or blouse will not stay closed. It’s a major inconvenience, and totally embarrassing if I may add when it comes to getting dressed for work or just daily in general. Nobody wants to be constantly explaining why their shirt has ventilation or “issues”.
It’s a new day ladies, and now you have options to include the right size bra (one of the major factors in the shirt gap), or if it’s a size challenge, then try something new like a camisole bra that provides a peek-a-boo affect of a camisole underneath. Stylish, a solution and simply glamorous all rolled into one. Regardless of your personal challenge, a white shirt is always in style. Did you buy the right size? Many women buy shirts too tight to get a little sexy going on…Love it, but again make sure your wearing something underneath that compliments, not distracts. Wear it with confidence with the right solution!
New Year – New You
As we end the year, the goals and resolutions begin to emerge. If fitness is on the list, then having the right gear including a proper fitting sports bra is very important. Compression is the key word here. This does not mean smashing, “I can’t breathe get me out of this”. Compression defined in terms of lingerie fit is the bra allows you to move comfortably and not deal with the jiggles. Now that you can get sports bras sized, if you are a D or above, the options are now plenty. If you’re smaller framed, the best solution is the XS-XL collections. Remember to select the correct style for the level of fitness you are doing on a daily basis. If your doing kick boxing, then a firm fit sports bra is important. If it’s yoga, no wire should be just fine. Thank you to all our readers and Facebook Friends in making 2010 a wonderful year for Lingerie Fit Expert. Make 2011 a spectacular and successful year!
Lingerie Style – Leopard Love Continues…
Leopard is everywhere! Handbags, shoes, gloves, coats, hosiery and beyond… Instead of basic black try a little animal. A bra and panty set is perfect if you’re timid about busting out (no pun intended) in public. It’s very chic and stylish. Underwear is another way to incorporate cheetah passion. So many companies provide 3 for offers. Invite the wild side into your life!
The Bra Has a Birthday – 100 Years of Lifting the “Girls”
Shaped, Uplift, and Up. These are a few of my favorite terms for the bra. This year, the bra turns 100, and this diva looks amazing.
The bra has evolved from a basic beige or white girl keeper as my mom says, to a key foundation that fit, flatters fulfills an important role in the lives of women worldwide…help me to look fabulous in my clothes daily. The bra styles have also evolved. You can select from full coverage, to demi, to convertible. There is a style and design for every fashion challenge as well as the emotional impact of having breast cancer to the beauty of a bridal gown.
The bra is truly a woman’s best friend. Sizes and shapes have changed. You can begin at a double “A” and end at “K”. This too has revolutionized the way women “feel” about themselves. When you are not supported and feel low, it affects your body image and overall appearance. Don’t forget to get fitted by a professional. The bra is personal. Get the right support and style that works for you. Cheers, here to the Bra! You keep going girl…
In Honor of Women Who Thrive – Inspiration and Advice
Every woman loves pink. As we celebrate women who have thrived and survived breast cancer, celebrate these final days in the month of October in the signature color pink.
Pink is a color of passion, joy, energy and power! I find these perfect words for women who have gone through the journey of breast cancer. Looking good from the inside out is a goal for most women. A great fitting bra and underwear is a woman’s ultimate connection to self. Think Pink. Live life victorious everyday for the women who continue the fight against breast cancer.
In Honor of Women Who Thrive – Inspiration and Advice
As we continue to spotlight Breast Cancer Awareness, I have chosen to honor my aunt who recently finished chemo and a breast lift. In the early stages of treatment, my aunt needed a bra that gave support. A front closure bra is the ideal. My aunt was fortunate that they were able to remove all of the cancer through surgery, so she is able to wear underwire bras now.
Don’t forget that women with a mastectomy form or without can wear beautiful bras. It helps give you the “psychological lift” you need to recover. I encourage every woman to be there after a friend or loved one has had a diagnosis. Go with them for the post-surgical bra fitting. During the month of October, anyone who purchases bras from Lingerie Fit Expert is helping to save lives. A donation is being given to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation through our online retailer Bare Necessities. Thank you!
In Honor of Women Who Thrive – Inspiration and Advice
October is the celebration of women and the fight to eradicate breast cancer. This year, the cause has tremendous significance for me as one of my dear friends who is one of my cheerleaders and inspiration behind starting Lingerie Fit Expert was touched by breast cancer. My friend wanted to remain anonymous. She is a bright and beautiful 40 something diva. She was given the diagnosis earlier this year and opted for a double mastectomy. Recently, she has had reconstruction to include implants. As she glowingly stated on the phone to me a few weeks ago, “these girls look great”. She is beginning her bra shopping journey and excited.
The first goal for a friend or yourself in finding a bra that fits is to focus on comfort first. No underwire is absolutely the way to go until your physician gives you thumbs up. There are numerous options no matter the size. If you exercise like my friend aforementioned who practices yoga, then a sports bra that is supportive but not smashing is also a must have. Getting back into life is vital to your recovery and an overall feel good. We celebrate every woman who has been touched this year. Continue to thrive!
In the Grey – Fall Lingerie Preview!
Last Spring we blogged about the new “it” color Grey. As I flip through Elle, In Style, and Vogue and more, the color has become a mainstay for the upcoming fall season. Versatile, and can easily mixed and splashed with vibrant colors such as red and violet. The floral trend has also remained. Flowers and lingerie just seem to go together.
As we transition out of our slinky summer frocks, we begin to look at layers. A sexy print bra under black is a fashion OH Yes! As I have mentioned before, you just want to make sure it’s seamless so that it creates smooth lines. This applies to every woman including full fit/full figure ladies. Fashion bras are a must have for the wardrobe.
