As we continue to spotlight Breast Cancer Awareness, I have chosen to honor my aunt who recently finished chemo and a breast lift.  In the early stages of treatment, my aunt needed a bra that gave support.  A front closure bra is the ideal.  My aunt was fortunate that they were able to remove all of the cancer through surgery, so she is able to wear underwire bras now.

October is the celebration of women and the fight to eradicate breast cancer.   This year, the cause has tremendous significance for me as one of my dear friends who is one of my cheerleaders and inspiration behind starting Lingerie Fit Expert was touched by breast cancer.  My friend wanted to remain anonymous.  She is a bright and beautiful 40 something diva.  She was given the diagnosis earlier this year and opted for a double mastectomy.  Recently, she has had reconstruction to include implants.  As she glowingly stated on the phone to me a few weeks ago, “these girls look great”.  She is beginning her bra shopping journey and excited.

The first goal for a friend or yourself in finding a bra that fits is to focus on comfort first.  No underwire is absolutely the way to go until your physician gives you thumbs up.  There are numerous options no matter the size.  If you exercise like my friend aforementioned who practices yoga, then a sports bra that is supportive but not smashing is also a must have.  Getting back into life is vital to your recovery and an overall feel good.  We celebrate every woman who has been touched this year.  Continue to thrive!

Pink RibbonOur last blog this month is dedicated to The Gal Walk’s friend and champion Dorit Shapiro.  I met Dorit at the kick off of the Franklin Covey Planner for the Gal to Gal organization.  Ironically, there was a personal item that belonged to Dorit in the Franklin Planner that I won.  I mailed it back to her and told her how she inspired me with her fight.  A couple weeks later Dorit passed away.  She is missed by so many friends and family members.  I challenge everyone to assist organizations like The Gals with their fight to help women.  Gal tip:  Encourage your friends to get a mammogram.  Blessings to everyone!

In honor of our Gals, I thought we would celebrate the signature color that is dedicated to the cause, pink.  I am a pink fan and wear it in every season including while visiting New York in the middle of winter with my pink trench coat.  Yes, that was me.  I am a California Diva what can I say…We picked out a few of our favorites to inspire us that pink is a color that is full of life, vitality and girl fun.  Felina 630461 is a super cute with a soft feminine floral print.  Cosabella AMORE 1103 is rock star fun.  This one would have to be seen in my book, so I would wear it under a sheer camisole with a peek a boo affect under a button down shirt.  The black trim allows it to be a perfect match for fall wardrobe solutions.

I have been wearing balconette bras for around two years.  The style is perfect for us ladies who want lift without pouring out of the cup.  This one in particular has a lined cup which I loved not only for modesty, but for someone who is seeking a solution after breast cancer surgery.  A mastectomy form would fit in perfect and or it gives a little bit more shape if you’re smaller in one side than the other. A pocket can always be added to  a regular bra with a seamstress assistance.  I just fit a client who was in need of a contour bra and was going to reject this style.  She ended up loving her new look.  It does take and reshape your figure.  I know I need this at times myself.  Gal tip of the day:  Embrace where you are and where you want to be is not far…

Calvin is becoming one of my favorite brands.  The price point is perfect, and the fit is the best I have seen in years.  Over the years, clients have asked for no underwire.  I used to cringe because the selection was limited and the styles were not pretty, and sometimes frumpy.  I felt like women were being punished for asking for an option other than underwire.  Now, a new decade has been born where lingerie companies understand that great fit can translate to comfort and yes, no wire.  Check out Calvin Klein F2880.  This is one I would wear to provide a solution for low plunge neck lines and yes to get my sexy on! In addition, the lace trim looks almost like a camisole.  I would pair with a white blouse to create an illusion.  Perfect for women who are seeking solutions post surgery as well.  Gal tip of the day:  Look at the possibilities in all situations…

When I think of Wacoal 85121 I think of one of my friends and clients Dianne Travis-Teague.  Diane is a survivor of breast cancer.  I met her when I was in retail and she invited me to a significant birthday party.  At the event, she talked about how she survived breast cancer.  The women in the room had been there to help her through the journey.  I was so inspired.  We dined on filet mignon at The Ojai Valley Inn compliments of Diane.  The most magical part of the evening was when Diane gave everyone a gift for attending with the quote from Maya Angelou, “Surviving is important, but Thriving is Elegant”. I remember thinking I will engrave this in my heart every time I help a woman with a lingerie fitting who has had breast cancer.  Diane wore this bra with elegance and she is still thriving today.    Gal tip of the day:  Uplift a friend with a hug or nice message.

I am starting to be a Flexees Fanatic.  Their camisole 77340 is super chic and fabulous.  How many times do we wish we have on a contour bra and camisole without having to wear both!  Divas it has it all including no wire.  I see this one on my next trip to New York for a layering piece for the cooler climate.  This is also a perfect solution for someone who has just had breast surgery.
