Are you working it? The importance of Sports Bras

As we enter the tail end of January 2010, I know for most of us, we have made our resolutions to loose weight, go to the gym, and just be more active.  As a friendly reminder, make sure you own a sports bra and do not work out in your regular bra.  A sports bra is designed to give specific engineering and lift for women.  A regular bra, although supportive is designed for shaping the breasts, but not for jumping, running, etc.  When doing fittings for clients, I have seen numerous women walk in with blown out bras.  I always ask in the consultation, do you own a sports bra?  A few will say yes, but the majority will boldly say no, and have sixteen reasons why.  This is not ok.  I always compare it to wearing the same shoes day in and day out for one year.  Your shoes and your feet would be worn out!

Just like a regular bra, you can select the type of impact you need to get your work out on!  If you are a pilates or yoga lover, then low impact or no wire solutions will work well for you.  If you play tennis or run, you will want to select a firm or compression garment that keeps your ladies in place but does not bind or pinch.  If you’re a AA or smaller cup, they have heard the voices of women who said we need a little help.  You can find contour or molded solutions to give you more shape.  The full figure customer has awesome choices, finally…

    Stay focused on your goals!

In Honor of The Gals – Dorit Shapiro – A Woman Who Thrived

Pink RibbonOur last blog this month is dedicated to The Gal Walk’s friend and champion Dorit Shapiro.  I met Dorit at the kick off of the Franklin Covey Planner for the Gal to Gal organization.  Ironically, there was a personal item that belonged to Dorit in the Franklin Planner that I won.  I mailed it back to her and told her how she inspired me with her fight.  A couple weeks later Dorit passed away.  She is missed by so many friends and family members.  I challenge everyone to assist organizations like The Gals with their fight to help women.  Gal tip:  Encourage your friends to get a mammogram.  Blessings to everyone!

In honor of our Gals, I thought we would celebrate the signature color that is dedicated to the cause, pink.  I am a pink fan and wear it in every season including while visiting New York in the middle of winter with my pink trench coat.  Yes, that was me.  I am a California Diva what can I say…We picked out a few of our favorites to inspire us that pink is a color that is full of life, vitality and girl fun.  Felina 630461 is a super cute with a soft feminine floral print.  Cosabella AMORE 1103 is rock star fun.  This one would have to be seen in my book, so I would wear it under a sheer camisole with a peek a boo affect under a button down shirt.  The black trim allows it to be a perfect match for fall wardrobe solutions.

I could not pass up Ed Hardy “True Love Camisole” 3016 as one of our picks.  It is symbolic for how I feel about what I do for women and how Lingerie Fit Expert feels about women who have fought for their life with breast cancer.  All three of these items could be worn as an ensemble.  Remember, lingerie just like fashion can be mixed and matched.  Gal tip of the day:  Never Give Up.  Trust, believe and have unshakeable faith.

I have been wearing balconette bras for around two years.  The style is perfect for us ladies who want lift without pouring out of the cup.  This one in particular has a lined cup which I loved not only for modesty, but for someone who is seeking a solution after breast cancer surgery.  A mastectomy form would fit in perfect and or it gives a little bit more shape if you’re smaller in one side than the other. A pocket can always be added to  a regular bra with a seamstress assistance.  I just fit a client who was in need of a contour bra and was going to reject this style.  She ended up loving her new look.  It does take and reshape your figure.  I know I need this at times myself.  Gal tip of the day:  Embrace where you are and where you want to be is not far…

I work out at the gym at least three to four times a week when I am not traveling.  I am really starting to love it!  I am sleeping better, and I have lot’s of energy not to mention my curves are looking good.  I have clients who have asked for a sports bra that does not bind, provides comfort and enough compression for biking, walking, and aerobics.  My pick has always been Donna Karan 35237.  In addition, it has been a wonderful bra for women who have needed a solution for non-underwire.  The side support panels give a little lift on the sides.  You don’t have to worry about having uni-boobs.  One huge breast smashed together.  My clients who wear golf apparel have been thinking me for years.  Gone are the times when women have to wear a harness in order to feel athletic.   If you have friends who complain about underwire bras, I highly recommend this bra.  Gal tip of  The Day:  Eat well, breathe and move daily for vitality and healthy living.

When I think of Wacoal 85121 I think of one of my friends and clients Dianne Travis-Teague.  Diane is a survivor of breast cancer.  I met her when I was in retail and she invited me to a significant birthday party.  At the event, she talked about how she survived breast cancer.  The women in the room had been there to help her through the journey.  I was so inspired.  We dined on filet mignon at The Ojai Valley Inn compliments of Diane.  The most magical part of the evening was when Diane gave everyone a gift for attending with the quote from Maya Angelou, “Surviving is important, but Thriving is Elegant”. I remember thinking I will engrave this in my heart every time I help a woman with a lingerie fitting who has had breast cancer.  Diane wore this bra with elegance and she is still thriving today.    Gal tip of the day:  Uplift a friend with a hug or nice message.

Support, Lift and Shape is my motto for a great fitting bra.  I was thrilled when I saw the TC Fine Intimates Camisole 4102.  We at LFE love the 444 camisole and now we have a new fit that allows you to have a foam cup that provides modesty and just a little uplift for a shaping solution with impact.  I thought of this camisole for our salute to women who are thriving with breast cancer this month.  If you had a mastectomy, this would allow you not to worry about a padded insert.  The clients of mine who have purchased are raving about the fact that they love wearing fitted sweaters, knit tops and they don’t have to worry about cumbersome lines or seams.  On the confidence scale of 1 to 10, we give this one a 10 plus!   This is our Gal Pick of The Month.  We are giving a percentage of all sales through our website to The Gals in honor of the virtual walk www.galtogalwalk.org

Welcome to October Divas!  In honor of the Gal to Gal Virtual Walk, we are focusing on “Thriving Underneath It All”, lingerie and intimate apparel solutions for women who have been touched by breast cancer.  We also will be celebrating the friends, and sisters who have helped to uplift women going through the process.  Lingerie is the best way to empower yourself to feel good again.  I have seen it numerous times as I have helped women in my fit events around the country.  I begin my review with Warner 2008 “add a cup” bra.

One of my clients and her husband are the proprietor a lovely historical hotel in Mississippi was looking for a bra to help provide a symmetrical fit and lift after having survived breast cancer for over 10 years.  I found this bra for her and I was beaming for joy with her reaction…”Lisa the ladies are perky and I have lift”.  This was music to my ears and my client’s confidence soared to a new height.  The bra features a sculpted cup that makes your silhouette totally curvaceous.   The inside has a luxurious liner.  Totally comfortable and no wire makes it a dream.  If you are a D cup, Wacoal Awareness bra 856167 is another option.  Regardless if you have had a lumpectomy or mastectomy, being symmetrical is possible.  So many women are afraid to wear body conscious clothing because they fear “fit issues”.  We are brining more of our Lingerie Fit Expert Favorites this month.

Lingerie Fit Expert Loves The Gal to Gal Virtual Walk! – Kick Off 09

Last year I was so honored to partner with Design Her Gals and their Gal to Gal Foundation in helping to raise awareness and funds for women with stage IV breast cancer.  I went to the launch of The Franklin Covey Planner especially designed for the Foundation and I was the winner of the planner!  I was elated and felt it was a message to me to be apart of the “plan” to help the organization to help women around the country who have been dealt the hand of breast cancer.  This year, I will be donating a percentage from every transaction to the organization.  I have helped so many women with bra fit solutions who have been touched with breast cancer.  The attitude and desire to live inspires me to be an advocate for women to know that despite the fact that they may have lost a breast, they are beautiful inside and out.  “Lingerie Can Change a Woman’s Life” is not just our mantra, it our mission at Lingerie Fit Expert.  Most importantly, when you see a woman wear a beautiful lace bra for the first time after surgery, you know that it has changed her life.  We are going to celebrate all women this month who have either helped a friend, or who knows someone dealing with breast cancer.  Together, we are going to change each other’s lives with positive encouragement and lingerie solutions that inspire, “uplift” and empower.  Share this blog with your friends.
