In early 2000, I began wearing fishnet hosiery due to the prompting of a friend. She was gazing at my outfit and asked if I had ever tried fishnets. I said no and never will. I told her I felt it was not appropriate for daytime. After a brief dialogue she convinced me to step out of my box and I gave it a try. I started with a black suit. The reaction I received was insane from both men and women.

I was hooked and ironically, I secretly did have an issue with my off black hosiery that really did not match my skin tone. As we enter spring, this is my recommendation for every woman. I am even hooked on the thigh high hosiery for trousers.

It’s amazing how time is flying by and Spring is just around the corner. The fashion magazines are already showing all the trends. I am an absolute fan of Doncaster. I hosted an event in Stamford CT with a wardrobe stylist Noelle Ward who spoke about the trends for the season. I loved her descriptions. Americana is making a return (red, white and blue color stories),and orange is the new “it” color of the season.

Noelle spoke about the fresh look of Black and White. She wore it well with a spectacular white trench coat that is on my must have list. It’s all about ruffles this year. You can take a blouse and pair it with a pencil skirt, or the skirt has the dramatic flair and it is paired with a wide belt and a tunic top that is sleek and fitted. As usual, women around the world sometimes cringe when they hear the word “fitted”. Ladies, have no fear…shapewear is your friend for flawless dressing. Take for instance the fitted knit top that works with a slim pant or skirt.

A shapewear camisole is a must have. Cass is leading the season with shapewear that glides on the body and fits but also can be used as fashion statement because of the fabrication. It does not look like a shaper. A shapewear slip is also a perfect compliment to the season, or if you prefer a biker short holds you in place and does not ride. Remember, you can adjust the levels of control now. Sometimes a girl needs comfort and smooth lines for pants, skirts and clingy fabrics. The sexiest time of the year is here. I adore Valentines Day and all the girlie girl stuff. There is something for every woman. I remember the days when big puffy slippers and a sheer or silk night gown was considered “the gift”. Thank goodness we have evolved and the types of gifts and styles for women range from cotton pajamas, sexy bras to two piece sets that work after the special day. We as women need to connect to this holiday beyond just the boyfriend or husband ritual. That is just as important, but loving yourself in lingerie is a 365 day affair. I started being a fan of Valentines Day shopping for me when I saw the vase selection of styles come through the door when I worked in retail. I thought, wow, this is the time to shop! As for a color story, red and black are the norm, but have you tried the new it color of the season “purple”. Surprise someone special with a smoking hot purple frock or matching set. Every fashion magazine is screaming purple passion mania. I also believe white is perfect as a transition to spring and summer that are right around the corner.

I had a blast hosting a lingerie segment for Extra LifeChangers program. The first segment featured a new mom who was having challenges finding lingerie help. The second segment features me and eight women, all different sizes who utilize one garment to find solutions to their wardrobe problems. Each woman who did the segment all walked away with an excitement regarding the advice I gave personally to each one of them.
I feel so honored that the passion I have for lingerie continues to grow when you hear someone say ” Thanks I really needed the help!” I walked away truly inspired to stay on my mission regarding the importance of a great fit. Some of the girls were college grads, others were women 50 plus who had felt a little self conscious about their body image. Take control today! Spring is almost near, and since we have had record breaking cool temps, we wanted to bring our own form of sunshine with a peak at trends coming for Spring 2010. Simple statements and fresh color patterns are on the horizon. Stripes mixed with dashes of color and bold orange is the signature color of the season. I call it a mix of retro fresh chic. I have always encouraged my clients to select lingerie to go with the season trends. The must have item in my lingerie drawer every season is a color story of camisoles that go with the seasons trend. This winter I picked hot pink. I took my basic black wardrobe and pushed it to another level with splashes of hot pink underneath.

The Winner is…
It’s award season and the Golden Globes always marks the kick off. As usual the stars will have on their favorite designers and the need for the perfect undergarment is imperative. Can you imagine zillions of people looking at every part of your body? My bet is going to be that the long dress, no straps and body hugging is going to be the norm for most. A one piece solution (if possible) would be my pick for the woman who does not want to deal with a bra and panty shaper. As we have all seen on the red carpet, sometimes “the girls” are either in control or out. Yikes! As I was perusing People Magazine, US, and In Style recently, I noticed the very chic and hip short dresses on many Hollywood starlets. I think it’s fresh and allows women to customize their perspective on the trend. I saw everything from roaring 20’s inspired to A-Line. Another win with this style is that the trend can be worn by plus women to petite. The key factor for looking sensational is shaping your figure. For example, if you have on a style that focuses on the bust line, make sure you’re wearing a balconette that provides a “higher lift”. Lift allows you to accentuate your mid section and waist. You will appear more elongated.
